The Castle of Methoni is located in Peloponnese, in the town of Methoni which is part of the Messinian region. It was one of the most important defense buildings in Medieval ages for Greece, as Methoni was a stop in the trip that Christians made to the Holy Places. It is unknown when it was first built.
The castle is built on the land part of Agios Nikolaos (Saint Nicolas) and it is 700 meters long. The walls where enforced with towers and the land entrance had extra protective shields. It faces is the sea on three angles and there is a small fortress called Mpourtzi in the middle of the sea, that is connected through a small path to the rest of the castle.
The castle is very well known for its beauty and its beautiful small fortress. It will be a visit you will never forget!
